  • CAD (Computer-Aided Design) support
    • Experience with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Solid Edge, Unigraphics NX.
    • Part, assembly and drawing/drafting, plus knowledge of various other bundled packages.
    • Fast to learn new software packages (any time spent getting up to speed is not charged for).
    • Experienced in DFMA (Design For Manufacture & Assembly).
    • Adept at BOM and drawing configuration control.
    • Visualisations, animations, photo-realistic renderings.

  • Stress Analysis
    • Appreciation of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and the iterative design cycle.
    • Experience in ANSYS, and SolidWorks/Fusion 360 Simulation.
    • Ability to carry out hand calculations to support design work.

  • Materials
    • Knowledge of various materials and their properties; metals, plastics, ceramics, exotic/specialist materials, and composites such as CFRP, GFRP, AlBeMet, honeycomb panels.

  • 3D printing
    • In-house Ultimaker 2+ 3D printer available for use.
    • Many materials available, including PLA, ABS, ASA, PETG, Nylon, TPU (flexible), chopped carbon fibre.
    • Prototypes and end-use parts.

  • Milled / turned components
    • Any and all ‘machined from solid’ precision items e.g. PCB housings, mechanisms, bespoke structure.

  • Welded structures
    • Handling equipment, lifting frames, assembly trolleys, heavy structures.
    • Knowledge of brazing and electron beam welding for specialist items.

  • Sheet metal
    • Fabricated items, such as enclosures, shielding, bespoke structure, support equipment.
